Frequently Asked Questions - Bible

The Bible says that God created us in His image. But some people just don't believe what the Bible says. They believe that a long, long time ago, our ancestors were monkeys! Aren't you glad you believe what the Bible says?!

"Thou shalt not lie" is one of the Ten Commandments, so it's never okay to tell a lie. The Bible calls the Devil a liar. In fact, it calls him "the father of lies." So telling the truth is very important to God, and telling a lie is never okay.

"God put parents in authority over children. Part of their job is to protect children from harm. Many tv programs have things in them which can do great harm when we watch them, and parents use their wisdom to keep their children from harm.

"You shall not steal" is one of the Ten Commandments, so we know it's deeply important to God. To take what is not ours is like stealing from God Himself. To take what is not yours is always a sin.

Many people make fun of things out of sheer ignorance and simply have no idea what they are talking about. So don't get upset. But if an opportunity presents itself, you can tell them that the Bible is the most wonderful book in the world, and you can offer to share what you know about it.

God wrote the Bible -- but He used people to do it. He inspired them and they wrote what God wanted them to write. So you could say that people and God wrote the Bible together, but every word in the Bible was inspired by God.

Another name for the Bible is 'God's word.' God loves us and the Bible is one way He communicates with us. When we read the Bible we learn more about God, who He is and what he does for us.

The Bible is kind of like a guidebook that helps you live a good life.

Psalm 119:9 - How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word and following its rules.
Psalm 119:11 - I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.

The Bible can also help you grow as a Christian.

1 Peter 2:2 - You must crave pure spiritual milk so that you can grow into the fullness of your salvation. Cry out for this nourishment as a baby cries for milk.

The Bible is also a part of the spiritual armor that can help you to fight against the attacks of the devil.

Ephesians 6:17 - Take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.

Good stuff to know, whether a kid or an adult, don't you think?

For many reasons! But the most important one is that the Bible is God's Word. It's His message directly to us! It tells us Who God is and what He thinks and what His will is for us! Imagine that! Many people around the world have no access to Bibles and they will travel miles and miles just to hear a few words from it. Those of us who have Bibles have a great privilege. We can read God's word any time and should make the daily habit of spending time reading the Bible and thinking about the Bible. And we can find out more and more about Who God is every time we read the Bible. God wants us to know Him intimately, and every time we read the Bible, we get to know Him better and better. What could be more important than that?

The Bible is God's Word to His people. It's really a book of books. There are sixty-six books in all, and they were written by many authors over a period of about 1500 years! But all of the authors were inspired by God as they wrote. He's the real author.

The Bible doesn't mention television or ice hockey or bananas or kangaroos either. There are many things that aren't mentioned in the Bible, but that doesn't mean they don't exist or didn't exist at one time.
